you for your interest in volunteering your time to our organization. We
sincerely appreciate it. This page will give you ideas about how you can help
serve the children of West Tennessee. Please use the form below and fill in blanks so that we'll know
more about you. Give us as much information as you can and tell us briefly
what brought you to this decision. We will review your request and
contact you soon.
-
Parent Aide - (Must be at least 21 years old and
have a high school diploma or an equivalent)
In being a Parent Aide, you will work directly with a family. As a Parent
Aide, your task is to help meet the parents’ practical needs, to serve as a
role model and provide emotional support so that in turn, the parent may
nurture the child.
-
Superfriend - (Must be at least 18 years old and
a graduating Senior, or have a high school diploma or the equivalent.) Your
main task will be working directly with an abused or neglected child to
develop a trusting relationship that provides support, reassurance and
guidance. Being a Superfriend will give you a chance to become a positive
role model and make a significant difference in any child’s life.
-
VOCA / Victims of Crime Assistance - (Must be at
least 18 years old an a graduating Senior or have a high school diploma or
the equivalent.) You will have direct contact with a child who participates
in this particular program. VOCA children have either experienced abuse
first hand, or are subjected to domestic violence in their home. By being a
VOCA Volunteer, you can be active in a child’s life by providing
transportation from their school to the group meetings, which are held at
the Center, or by participating and assisting with VOCA outings and parties.
-
General Service Volunteer - In a variety of
capacities, according to your talents, abilities and time schedule. General
Service Volunteers assist with office work, special projects, the processing
of newsletters for mailing and fund raising activities throughout the year.
-
Special Event Volunteer - You may wish to help with a
specific event such as the Circles of Hope Telethon, a dinner and auction
or another type of fundraiser. There are a variety of roles to serve as a
special event volunteer from event planning, pre-event set-up, working at the
actual event in some capacity or post-event work.
-
AmeriCorps Member - As an AmeriCorps member, you will
be making a one year commitment to serve 1700 hours in various volunteer
activities. These activities may range in scope from being a Superfriend,
teaching parenting classes to other general services duties. In exchange
for your commitment, you may receive an education award and/or living allowance.
If you are interested in joining the "One Child
at a Time" AmeriCorps Program, complete the
on-line application.
Please remember that in
all programs, Volunteers and clients are two separate entities. Therefore, no
individual can be both at the same time.
