What the Center Does : The Center combines a professional staff with trained volunteers to provide quality services to children and their families. If you have questions for us about our programs or services, please feel free to contact us. We'll do our best to answer your questions promptly. Our services include:
Our Mission The mission of the Center is to provide support to families in preventing and dealing with child abuse in West Tennessee and to help both parents and children meet the practical needs of preserving and improving the quality of family life. Who We Serve Many of the families served by the Center are referred by the Department of Children's Services, community service agencies or the court system. In these families there are substantiated instances of child abuse or indications of possible danger to a child. In some cases, the child has been removed from the home. However, not everyone who contacts our Center is a child abuser. Families who see potential problems developing, or who just want to be better parents are encouraged to attend the Parent Training classes.
The good news is that the Center IS making a difference. It is now one of the largest and most successful of its kind in the nation. It is often showcased as a model center, having a 95% success rate- in over 20 years of operation, less than 5% of all cases the Center has worked on have ever been reopened for investigation of child abuse.
The Center's services put families back together and literally saves the lives of children. By helping the whole family to make positive changes we are often able to keep families together, or reunite families that have been separated, as well as to improve their quality of life. We are also giving children back their childhood and letting them know that someone cares. We are giving these children the gift of hope for a brighter future - a future without pain.
The Center provides services to all of rural West Tennessee, with the central
office being located in Jackson, Tennessee. There are
centers
in twelve West Tennessee counties, while others are served by a visiting social
worker. Crisis counseling is available to any individual or family in West
Tennessee by calling the toll-free, 24-hour
crisis hotline at 1-800-273-4747. |
